Simple Tips in Storing and Maintenance of Silk Sarees :-
Silk Sarees are a part of every special occasion in India. A woman’s wardrobe is incomplete without a few silk sarees. They are worn on weddings, and are gifted on key occasions, which are treasured and saved for generations. Saree, the free-flowing piece of magic which when draped, takes a new shape as per your personality.
Kanthi Silks has come up with few tips in handling handloom Silk Sarees with care, which are bound to increase the longevity of your Saree life.
- Silk Saree should not be hand or machine washed.
- In case the Silk Saree gets stained, it is advised to immediately wipe the stain off with cold water.
Always dry-clean Silk Sarees. - Better avoid direct sunlight against Silk Saree, as there is changes of color fading.
- Don’t keep the Silk Saree bundled up as this will result in the threads of the embroidery work getting entangled.
- Store the Silk Saree in a light cotton cloth or muslin cloth. Soft towels also a good option. This will give the Silk Saree breathing space and will prevent one saree from sticking to another when kept in a pile.
- The Silk Sarees should be stored in a cool, dry place. will keep your Saree from fading or discoloring.
- Unfold your Silk Sarees and change the folding preferably every few months. Ensure minimal friction between the cloth and the embroidery when you fold embroidered outfits.
- Silk Sarees are best maintained if kept in a hanging position. this method will leave your Saree wrinkle free.
- Never store the Silk Saree in a plastic cover as this will cause the gold embroidery to turn black.
- Do not store Silk Sarees with other material like cotton or chiffons.
- Use naphthalene balls to keep the moths and silverfish away from Silk Sarees.
- Use very low heat or put your Silk Saree under a cotton cloth while ironing it. The steam iron is the best option as there are almost zero chances of any harm happening to the Silk Saree.
